At Mustard Seed, we believe that every person has the right to shelter. Which is why we are proud to partner with organizations all over the world that help provide this basic human need. One of the ministries closest to our heart is Ithemba Shacks in Cape Town, South Africa. They train and employ young men from the township of Masiphumelele to build safe 3×3 meter weatherproof shacks.
Last month, they were able to build a new home for a young woman named Lindiswa and her daughter.
You can see the guys putting up the walls and the shack completed, except the door and window which they installed the following day.
Though it is very simple and small, Lindiswa is excited and grateful to have a home of their own after sharing space with her family.
Today, there is an estimated 45,000 people living in Masi and it continues to grow. Their living conditions have gone from desperate need to hopelessness as it has become more difficult to find places to live. But there is hope and we’re seeing that through the work of Ithemba Woods as they provide jobs, skill training, and new homes to this resilient community in the heart of Cape Town.
It only costs $800 to build a better shack for an entire family in Masiphumelele. Their goal is to raise $40,000 in 2018. This will allow Ithemba to build 1 new shack a week and will create more valuable jobs within their building team. Click the button below to contribute:
